I absolutely love being a mom. Yesterday was Mother’s Day, and I spent all day at work. Brent and the girls came to visit me for lunch, however, and brought pizza from Otto’s, one of our favorite pizza joints in Portland. It was so nice to see them on my lunch break, and the pizza was a very nice change from the sub-par cafeteria food at Maine Medical Center. Brent told me that Jenna had actually ordered the pizza herself, and paid for it. This was a huge step out of her comfort zone, and I was so impressed! Hayley presented me with a very nice homemade card she’d been working on for much of the day.
When I returned home from work at 7 o’clock that night, I was greeted with big hugs from everyone. Hayley had made (all by herself) a two-layer carrot cake with cream cheese frosting (my favorite). She did a great job, and even decorated the top with icing in my favorite color–pink. Jenna read me a heart-felt and touching poem, and I loved how expressive she was in her face and her voice. She asked me what I wanted for dinner, and then ordered me Chinese food over the phone, once again facing and conquering her apprehension. Skye guided me to her room to watch a video she’d made on her computer. She had put together a slide show with photos of us together over time. The music she had playing in the background was “The Way You Love Me” by Faith Hill…our special song. Skye and I like to play this song when we’re together, and sing along with great enthusiasm and volume.
I loved how thoughtful each of the girls were, and how creative and meaningful each of their gifts and their acts were. Ideally I would have been very happy simply spending the entire day with them. I can’t express how incredibly happy and fortunate I feel to have my wonderful daughters and partner in my life! I also think of my own wonderful and amazing mother. I love and appreciate her for all her love, affection, support, encouragement, patience, sacrifice, wisdom, and friendship. I want to always be there for my girls, just as my mother has been there for me. Before having daughters, I could never have imagined how rewarding being a mother could be. Happy Mother’s Day!
